WASHINGTON, D.C. – March 20, 2026 – Internet Works, the trade association representing “Middle Tech” companies spanning the internet ecosystem, today released a statement responding to the Trump Administration’s newly announced National Policy Framework for Artificial Intelligence.  Internet Works expressed optimism regarding the framework, particularly its emphasis on avoiding disproportionate regulatory burdens that could stifle the innovation of medium-sized platforms.

“For too long, the conversation around AI regulation has assumed a ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach, treating all tech companies as a monolith.  We are encouraged that the Administration’s new AI framework recognizes the need for right-sized, practical tech policy,” said Peter Chandler, Executive Director of Internet Works.  “By focusing on risk-based regulations, and by seeking to preempt a confusing, fragmented patchwork of state laws, this framework takes important steps toward ensuring a level playing field where Middle Tech companies can continue to innovate, compete, and deploy AI responsibly.  We look forward to working with the Administration and Congress to implement a federal AI framework that will support innovation while protecting our online communities and users.”
