[Washington, D.C.] – [June 4, 2026] – Today, Internet Works endorsed the NDO Fairness Act, sponsored by Senators Mike Lee (R-UT) and Chris Coons (D-DE) and Representatives Scott Fitzgerald (R-WI) and Jerry Nadler (D-NY).  As the leading voice for Middle Tech, Internet Works has endorsed legislation at the state and federal level to strengthen data privacy protections and online safety for all users.

“Protecting user privacy and supporting law enforcement agencies to keep our communities safe are core priorities for all Middle Tech companies,” said Peter Chandler, Executive Director of Internet Works.

By aligning the legal and constitutional processes for obtaining non-disclosure orders (NDOs), the NDO Fairness Act increases platforms’ ability to ensure users’ privacy and transparency in the judicial process.

“Internet Works members have a shared vision of an Internet that is both safe and secure, and we applaud Senators Lee and Coons and Representatives Fitzgerald and Nadler for their leadership on this issue.”

Lawmakers from both parties expressed enthusiasm for the bill’s support.

“Many thanks to Internet Works for endorsing the NDO Fairness Act to safeguard Americans’ privacy and the Constitution in the digital age,” said Senator Mike Lee (R-UT).  “Our bipartisan bill protects Americans from federal government searches of their data without any proper disclosure.  Internet Works’ support underscores the gravity of this bill – the major tech players they represent are speaking out to protect users’ personal information from ‘unreasonable searches and seizures.’  I urge Congress to listen and defend this constitutional right.”

“I appreciate the support of Internet Works on the NDO Fairness Act,” said Representative Jerry Nadler (D-NY).  “By establishing essential guardrails for when the government seeks to access someone’s electronic communications without that person’s knowledge, this legislation would protect Americans’ privacy by inserting balance into a system that for too long has been a free-for-all for government prosecutors.”

“The federal government should not be able to pull the personal data of individuals under investigation and then hide that fact indefinitely,” said Representative Scott Fitzgerald (R-WI).  “The NDO Fairness Act puts guardrails in place to restore transparency and reinforce constitutional rights.  I appreciate Internet Works’ shared support for those standards and am grateful for their endorsement of my legislation.”
