Sacramento, CA, September 9, 2025 — Internet Works, the trade association representing Middle Tech companies, announced its support for the Digital Age Assurance Act (AB 1043), legislation authored by Assemblymember Buffy Wicks (14th District) that would establish age verification protocols for app stores sharing signals of a user’s age with app developers. Specifically, AB 1043 helps make online experiences safer for kids by enabling apps and platforms to adapt based on actual knowledge of users’ age and ultimately empower parents with new tools—without compromising privacy or locking youth out from vital online connections.
“Internet Works member companies are deeply committed to working with lawmakers to craft policy that protects online users of all ages,” said Internet Works Executive Director Peter Chandler. “We applaud Assemblymember Wicks for taking a thoughtful and pragmatic approach to protecting children through the Digital Age Assurance Act. When stakeholders work together and truly listen to each other, we’re able to find common ground and advance stronger, more practical policy. We are encouraged by the shared responsibilities established by this bill, and we look forward to being at the table as this important policy discussion continues in the years ahead. We are also confident these protections will not inadvertently stifle innovation or disproportionately impact small and medium-size tech companies. We look forward to seeing this legislation enacted, which will deliver a more robust technical and legal framework to protect California’s children online.”
